Periodontics: What is it?

Periodontics is a dental specialty of dentistry treating the tissue holding the teeth such as gums and bone.

Periodontal disease

Periodontal diseases are caused by bacteria around teeth and gums. Often, they are painless and can occur at any age. Regular dental exams are necessary to detect gum disease. Be aware of the following: bleeding gums, bad breath, swollen and red gums, loose or unstable teeth.

Gum recession

Gum recession may be due to bacterial infections, aggressive brushing or patient’s genetics. It can cause damages to the bone structure supporting teeth. It can be treated with gum grafting and PRGF Endoret®.

Periodontal regeneration

At an advanced stage, periodontal disease destroys gums and bone that support teeth. Stimulating proteins can be used to allow your body to regenerate diseased tissues.

Extraction of wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth extraction is a common practice. The use of PRGF Endoret® and dental laser after extraction minimizes bleeding and postoperative recovery time.
