Pregnant women

Pregnant women with gum disease have an increased risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight.
Therefore, it is essential to have exemplary hygiene of the mouth and teeth before and during pregnancy. Pregnant women should avoid certain medications. A consultation with the dentist is necessary to ensure the health of the mother and her newborn.

Breastfeeding

Breast milk is a very nutritious food that improves the health of children and helps prevent disease. The baby should be seated on his mother’s lap with the body and head between 45 ° and 70 ° and should not be lying in his bed. The correct posture of the baby during breastfeeding allows him to breathe through his nose, to tighten his lips around the nipple, to swallow correctly and to stimulate the development of his jaws. Orthodontic bottle (which is different from normal bottles) or breastfeeding in a bad position to allow air to escape through the mouth, which leads to breathing through the mouth known to be harmful.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first visit to orthodontists at age 7.

Thumb or finger sucking

Chronic thumb or finger sucking is a harmful habit that leads to the following problems:
Narrow palate
Separated teeth
Poor jaw development
Overlapping teeth
Speech problem
Decreased breathing through the nose
Increased breathing through the mouth

Pacifiers

In general, pacifiers are used to prevent thumb sucking, which is harmful to the health of the baby when used too often. Special orthodontic pacifiers are recommended to avoid this problem, thus guiding the proper development of the baby’s jaws and tongue and therefore, promoting nasal breathing ideal for growth.
